Special Feature: NTT Tsukuba Forum 2009 Workshop Lectures NTT Tsukuba Forum 2009 Workshop Lectures The second special feature in this issue presents three workshop lectures given at NTT Tsukuba Forum 2009 held by NTT Access Network Services Systems Laboratories on Oct. 14 and 15, 2009 as a seasonal tradition in autumn at Tsukuba. As of June 2009, the number of FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) subscribers exceeded more than half the total number of broadband service subscribers in Japan and broadband services via FTTH have become common in our daily life. The lectures reviewed the trends of recent topics among NTT’s technologies, described NTT’s research and development efforts, and predicted future developments for optical access network technologies. They were originally given in Japanese. The workshop lectures were: •Optical Access Trends Driving NGN Expansion by Munetake Otsuka, Project Manager, First Promotion Project, NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories. • Optical Access System Trends toward Further Expansion of Broadband Services by Hisaya Hadama, Senior Research Engineer, Executive Manager of the Optical Access Systems Project, NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories. • Trends in Optical Access Network Technologies Supporting FTTH by Masahito Arii, Project Manager, Second Promotion Project, NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories.
